in a time of financial trouble

Halt die Ohren steif!

This year the GSLG will be taking part in the fifth WESLINE conference, which is hosted by the John Rylands University Library,  Manchester. The packed and practical programme will be of interest to librarians and academics across French, German, Italian and Spanish studies. The conference will include presentations by academic staff of Manchester University's School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, and by professional colleagues from Liverpool and Portsmouth. Use our press release to convince your manager and the registration form to book your place!
Conference dates: 1 - 3 September 2010

Trip to Halle 2011

Message from Graham Whitaker

Members of GSLG may remember that, at the time of the Goettingen visit in 2007, Dr Schnelling (Director of the Universitaets- u. Landesbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt) invited the Group to make a return visit, but this time to Halle. He has repeated this invitation to coincide with our 25th anniversary and suggested that we should visit in September 2011. The earliest possible date for this would be 12/13 September and this has been agreed. An extension of the visit to include the 14th would permit the Group, as in 1997, to see something of the other library resources in Halle or perhaps further afield in Leipzig; the projected dates are therefore 11 September (date of arrival) to 15 September (departure - a four-night stay).

This advance notice is being circulated now to allow members to consider whether they would be interested in taking part and to keep these dates free, if they are. A provisional booking, which is being held for us until 31 January 2011, has been made at a centrally-located and reasonably-priced hotel in Halle. Depending on the eventual numbers, it may be necessary to find additional rooms at another hotel.

Do please think about this, so that I can have some idea of the level of support by the time of the Manchester WESLINE meeting in September. I realise that the dates may fit awkwardly with the start of the teaching year, but I hope that as many members as possible will be able to accept Dr Schnelling's invitation.
