German Studies Library Group Activities
Annual Conference
Each year the German Studies Library Group organises a short residential conference. This gives members (and their guests) a valuable opportunity to meet face-to-face, and learn more about current issues affecting professionals and academics. In recent years, our conferences have been jointly organised with other language groups, under the umbrella of the West European Studies Library & Information Network (WESLINE). Our conference in 2010 was held in Manchester and was entitled: Keeping calm and carrying on - level-headed librarians in a time of financial trouble.
In 2011 the group will be making a special visit to the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek in Halle, with various library visits including the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, Leipzig, and presentations on current issues such as digitisation activities and webscale discovery.
2007 was another special year, as the GSLG celebrated coming of age with our 21st annual conference at the university of Goettingen. The programme included lectures, presentations, professional networking and several tours of libraries in Erfurt, Gotha, Wolfenbuettel and Goettingen itself.
Training
The GSLG occasionally organises training seminars, tailored to meet the needs of specific groups of librarians working in the field of German studies. Past events have included a general session for non-specialists moving into the area of German studies, and one on relevant electronic sources of information. If you have any suggestions regarding training, please contact us.
